I always loved punk band names. The best ones combine sex, violence, humor, and disgust. One of the standard conventions is to slam together something mundane or sacred with something violent or digesting. Some of my favorites are Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, The Dead Milkmen, Suicidal Tendencies, Buzzcocks, Reagan Youth and of course The Dead Kennedys.

Just for the hell of it, I tried to come up with a punk band name generator. I create three columns in excel and sprinkled them with famous names, military terms and a bunch of random everyday words, then used a formula to randomize. My parent’s force me to go to camp one year when I was about 10. The first week was at the beach which wasn’t too bad. I got to surf, swim and fish. However, the second week was in the mountains. A decrepit yellow school bus came to pick me up. The driver was probably in his late 70s. His cowboy boots should have tip me off. For the entire agonizing trip up the steep mountains, everyone had to listen to country music and him yelling at us to “Sit the hell down!”. During that 4 hour trip, this was the one song that got stuck in my head and is still there today. Only death will release from it’s clutches. BTW…thanks for bring it up Alison!

Les Paul dies at 94

If I had a list of heroes, Les Paul would be at the top. He was an amazing inventor (electric guitar and multi-track recording) and guitar player. Also I love the fact that he named his first guitar “The Log” which Gibson originally turned down saying it was “a broomstick with pick-ups”. It sounds like he lived an amazing life.
