Netflix gets digital right

Here’s the scenario. I’m watching Netflix on my Wii downstairs, but the kids come and want to watch NickJr. I pause my show to run upstairs and continuing watching on my XBOX. Crap! I have a doctor’s appt. No problem, I just pick up where I left off on my iPhone waiting for the doctor.

Finally a totally integrated solution! Never though I would see the day when that bullshit term could actually mean something.

Here is a list of all the platforms NetFlix can be used.

And if you want to know why this works, it’s because Netflix has decided not to partake in the platform wars. They’ve chosen to go where their users are, which is basically everywhere.

Yes. All this platform war crap is basically wall street analysts trying to predict which way the wind is blowing instead of focusing on who is provide the best service with what’s available. Platform be damned. You need to be ubiquitous in todays fragmented market.

When I think about growing up and renting movies, it was all about blockbuster. Are they even in business anymore? Netflix has been innovative from the day it launched — from the service model and pricing, to the Web site and now, various devices. It is an example of how a company can be successful in the complex world of today by putting users and ideas first.
